LET'S TALK ABOUT WEIGHT......

Ok, lets talk about the elephant in the room and I don't mean me. Though I could make a good stand in for Nelly the elephant. Like so many of us out there weight has now become a daily struggle and something that I wish I could do something about.

Wait everyone is saying, "You can do something about it" and yes I can. Though I have to say that I do not have great willpower. Sometimes I wish I could literally staple my lips shut and do a juice only fast. That said having bought the juicer we are now juicing on a regular basis. I can now proudly say that I have in fact already lost 7lbs which in Enland would be half a stone.

Now about this stone thing, in England we do weight by the amount of stones you are and pounds. Where the stone thing came from historically I am not sure and maybe it relates to your weight in real rocks, who knows. All I can say is that 1 stone equals 14lbs for everyone that wants to know.

Here in the States it is all lbs related which for me lulls me into a false sense of security. If you say the weight in lbs it just feels less to me than the actual stone weight. I suppose that is because I am conditioned to the stone thing.

When I was a young woman I was 7 and a half stones which is 105 lbs and I was that weight for years. I had a tiny 18" waist (I still have the skirt), it would fit my thigh now! Yikes!!! Even when I had my son I only gained 20lbs and lost it pretty quickly afterwards. So I was used to being the skinny one in the family.

Boy does life change with the slow passing of the years. Now at the age of 55 I feel I really want to make a life altering change. A great inspiration has been Kirsty Alley who at the age of 60 has hopefully turned a corner in the weight wars.

I am taking things very slowly and working in 5 lb increments. I would be happy to be down to 120lbs which should be attainable. I am only 5' tall and have a small frame. My body does not need to lugging around this extra 40 lbs. I have been wearing a 14 which is not huge but I do not feel happy at this weight. So for me now is the time to begin making the change.

My first five pounds increment has now been passed and I am now on my way to my second five pounds. I might even go out tomorrow for a bike ride, that is a big deal in this heat. So tomorrow will see me wearing loose pants and taking off for the park. I wonder if I should issue a public warning first. A bit like a hurricane warning with different categories. I think a bike ride for me might be a Cat 3!

In less than two weeks I am off to England again and I will be away for a month. When I went last year I gained 8lbs because the food was fabulous and I could not resist a good pub meal. Plus I love a great fish and chips and a good hot curry.

This year I want to come back the same weight that I went, I will let you know if I succeed or not!

Keep following this space to see how I do, I will be juicing tomorrow for sure, wish me luck.......
